Whether you’ve been in-person at times he’s taught, attended an online Bible study he helped facilitate, watched devotionals he’s provided or read his deep musings on faith we’ve published, you know God has been using Jason to communicate the comfort and joy of the Gospel in a multitude of ways. Now we are hoping to see him be able to focus part — and eventually full-time — on his work presenting God’s Word in accessible ways that benefit the Body of Christ around the world and you can help make that happen.
We need a team made up of people like you willing to become partners in this effort through financial support. Support can look like as little as $1, $10 or $25/month — every cent helps us fund ministry work; whatever the Lord leads you to give makes a difference. To make this happen as soon as possible, we’re going to adopt a “crowd funding”-type approach and with each goal met, Jason is going to complete further work on the upcoming Gospel of Mark commentary.
As a 501(C)(3) charitable organization, your donation to FaithTree to support Jason’s ministry work is tax deductable. Our board of directors will oversee Jason’s work and the financial details will be released for public audit and accountability.
The beginning of this story started years ago in the middle of the pandemic, as I thought about how to reach loved ones in simple words with the Scriptures. We’re starting with Isaiah 53:1-10 as the first Appendix to a fully completed commentary on the Gospel According To Mark because of Isaiah’s special place in understanding Jesus Christ and His work for us. Isaiah 53:1-10 is arguably the most famous of the Servant Songs” that points us right to Jesus in the New Testament!
The wider goal that I share with Pastor Tim is to make the Bible less intimidating to ordinary people, to encourage people everywhere to read it, to believe that it belongs to them as a gift that God wants to give. Because He does!
I eventually have a goal to have written commentary on the entire Bible! We may not get there together, but we can try!
And to be frank, this particular effort allows me to help everyone out there despite medical and physical challenges. I continue to believe that every person has something unique to give to the people of God, no matter how challenging things get! I might jokingly say that all that schooling deserves to be paid back!
Our goal is to honor the principle that “the worker is worthy of his wage” (1 Timothy 5:18) by funding ministry we all believe in. Each milestone below unlocks the next stage of Jason’s Biblical teaching work:
Jason participates in providing teaching material in video devotionals, live Bible classes (that are streamed and available to anyone anywhere) and extensive writing on faith, including that which appears on Open for Business, a part of the FaithTree Network that seeks to reach beyond traditional ministry audiences. Jason’s sermons, devotionals and his commentary work are being incorporated into FaithTree Grow, a Bible research tool that makes it easy to find Biblical materials commenting on a given passage. We hope to keep exploring new avenues for Jason’s gifts as this project develops.
[Jason explains his purpose here.]
The sooner we are able to reach the first goal, the sooner he starts: he’s ready to start right now.
No. We run a very lean operation; beyond credit card and payroll processing fees necessary to receive the funds and get them to Jason in compliance with the tax code, our goal is that these funds towards goals go entirely to Jason. Support allows Jason to dedicate focused time using his gifts towards ministry work instead of devoting that time to finding alternate employment to cover living expenses, including some needed mobility aids.
As Jason explains:
Every cent that you feel led to give becomes an investment in partnership and eventually something that will bless people we don’t even know yet. We know about the mustard seed: how it begins so small, but grows to be bigger than all other plants. And how Jesus told his apostles that what they gave to Him would be multiplied like the wheat harvest. Has Jesus ever let us down? Aren’t His blessings far beyond what we ask or imagine?
For my part, you’re allowing me to remain joyfully obsessed with the Bible. To know Jesus personally through the Scriptures is indeed the “pearl of great price” for us who believe. As you long for friends and loved ones to understand, and as we who are disciples long to understand more deeply, every gift becomes a prayer. As one hymn puts it concerning Heaven: “Faith to sight, and prayer to praise.”
At each “checkpoint” in the goal roadmap, Jason will receive the support raised towards that goal (e.g., once $300 is raised and he has released the Isaiah 53:1-10 commentary for everyone to benefit from, he’ll receive the first stipend from this effort and likewise as further goals are met). Once regularly recurring support goals are met, this will transition to a stipend or salary under a clearly defined job description covering further teaching, writing and preaching duties.
We expect this project to be a success, but recognize everything must be done according to God’s will. Should He lead at some point in a different direction, any remaining balance in the dedicated fund for this work will be distributed to missionaries throughout the world to continue doing Gospel work.
